📌 About Vintage Emerald Beads
Emerald beads from old mines are traditionally hand-drilled. In ancient times, without modern drilling machines, artisans drilled from both ends of the stone, leaving slightly uneven centers and sharp edges. To preserve the thread and enhance durability, jewelers historically applied “joban” (oil inside bead holes). This was never meant to alter or enhance the gemstone’s color, but only to soften drilling edges and prevent breakage during stringing. This necklace reflects that authentic craftsmanship
